OliX Files to Expand a Hair-Loss RNA Trial. Results Are Still Ahead.
OliX filed to add New Zealand to its OLX104C phase IIa study. The androgen-receptor siRNA is delivered by intradermal scalp injection; filing is not authorization or efficacy evidence.
A filing, then a clinical test
In a September 8 regulatory disclosure, OliX Pharmaceuticals said it had filed to add New Zealand to the phase IIa development of OLX104C, an investigational treatment for androgenetic alopecia. The company said it would report authorization separately. Filing an application does not mean a regulator has approved it, a participant has been dosed in the new location, or the treatment has shown clinical efficacy. [1]
The registered phase Ib/IIa program uses OLX72021 as the intervention name and OLX104C as the project name. It studies an androgen-receptor-targeting small interfering RNA (siRNA) administered by intradermal scalp injection. The phase IIa plan includes repeated dosing and assesses change in target-area non-vellus hair counts at about 24 weeks, alongside safety and local tolerability. That time point is an assessment schedule, not a demonstrated onset of effect; the registry has not posted trial results. [2]
The mechanism has preclinical evidence
The approach seeks to lower androgen-receptor expression through RNA interference. A published study reports receptor knockdown in human dermal papilla cells, hair-growth changes in a dihydrotestosterone-induced mouse model, and observations in ex vivo human follicles. The reported human follicle work was outside a living person’s scalp. None of these models answers whether OLX104C will improve hair counts in a controlled human trial. [3]
OliX also has a research relationship with L’Oréal and has reported investment from its BOLD venture fund. Public materials do not establish that OLX104C is the product of that partnership. The drug’s current clinical route is intradermal injection; it should not be presented as a topical cosmetic merely because both organizations work in skin and hair. This program is also separate from N1 Life’s work. [4]
